A few years ago I pitched a show to Disney. I was weary of Saturday morning morality that ended with strong good guys beating up and punishing the bad guys. I wanted to create an alternative male narrative that didn’t always have such a black and white ending. So I set my story in a world where male bravado is over the top and where acting differently would be a risky and heroic act.
Here’s the outline:
A scrawny boy yearns for the respect of his father, an Irish crab fisherman. But he discovers strange places and mystical creatures that challenge his assumptions of manhood. Now he must choose between his family and his new world. Think Deadliest Catch/Twin Peaks for kids!
